Transcendental Meditation
Transcendental Meditation

I learnt Transcendental Meditation about 27 years ago. I was a student at university and was looking for something. I had the feeling that there was more to life beyond just what we experience through the senses. I ended up doing a house cleaning/ child minding job for a couple who happened to be teachers of Transcendental Meditation.

When I heard what they did I was very interested, just the word “transcendental” had an alluring quality to it, although I don’t think I really knew what it fully meant. I attended an introductory presentation where the teachers talked about quantum physics and how there is a field of unity at the basis of life and at the basis of each individual and explained how the practice of Transcendental Meditation was the technique to take you there.

I signed up to do the next course. I remember even over the first few days of the course I started to feel something. I felt more mental clarity like my mind was actually working properly for the first time although I wouldn’t have described myself as feeling unclear or stressed. I don’t think I had ever felt such orderliness in my brain or refinement of perception. Everything just looked brighter.

I also noticed over the next few weeks that I just felt happier. I noticed, as I would drive off to university in the morning, that I felt a blissful happiness and had nothing particular to attribute it too. I also found that I didn’t think about events as much before they happened but when it came time to be somewhere I felt much more present and enjoyed social situations more.

I experienced that I could get my university work done in about half the time and felt better able to juggle the other aspects of my life without feeling overwhelmed. I was playing music in 3 bands and doing some part time work as well as studying. Not that long after I learnt TM, my mum was hospitalised with a clot in her brain and had to have 3 successive operations to remove it. While I was concerned about her I also had an underlying sense that she would be ok and didn’t feel like my mind was dominated with worry.

As time went on my experiences in meditation just got deeper and my ability to remain calm and really enjoy life just improved as well as more experiences of bliss and ease in life. About 6 years after I learnt TM I became a TM teacher and have been teaching Transcendental Meditation ever since.

I find it to be the most rewarding profession as you see people really transform even over a few days. I love being able to help people to experience that life can really be so much more than they ever thought. People who may have struggled to do other techniques often comment that TM is so easy and so effective. Like me, they notice positive changes very quickly and it is great to be able to support them on their ongoing journey as when you learn Transcendental Meditation you have a life time access to follow up and support including worldwide group meditations.

I offer free information sessions if you would like to find out more.
